ALA boxers, opponents make weight for Pinoy Pride 24

The three boxers from Cebu’s ALA Boxing stable all made weight for their respective fights for Pinoy Pride 24: The Future is Now. The three will all put their undefeated records on the line against international opposition.

Genesis Servania, a 22-year-old fighter holding a perfect record of 23 wins without a loss or a draw, will fight two-time world champion Alexander Munoz of Venezuela (36-5-0, 28 knockouts) in the main event.

There was a bit of controversy during the weigh in as Servania’s trainer insisted that Munoz was half a pound over the 122-pound limit. However, it was tough to say for sure as the stage floor had some bounce. The representatives of the Games and Amusements Board ultimately ruled that he weighed in at exactly 122 pounds. Servania on the other hand had no problem making weight, tipping the scales at 121 pounds.

The young ALA boxer will face the toughest challenge of his career but he isn’t worried as he trained hard for the upcoming fight. “I know he has experience and that he’s a pressure fighter but I’m not worried,” Servania said in Filipino after the weigh-in. “I’m not fighting his record, I’m fighting the man, and I know I can beat him.”

Servania is raring to defeat Munoz as he yearns for a world title shot in the near future. “It’s up to my handlers if they want me to fight for a world title but I know I’m ready for it,” said the defending WBO intercontinental super bantamweight champion.

In the supporting main event, Albert Pagara (18-0-0, 12 KOs) and Indonesia Isaak Junior (22-4-2, 8 KOs) both weighed in at the super bantamweight limit of 122 pounds. This will not be Junior's first trip to the Philippines as he suffered a third round knockout to Servania early in 2013. There is added pressure for Pagara to score an equally impressive victory against the Indonesian fighter to prove that he is also main event material.

In the other supporting main event, Arthur Villanueva (24-0-0, 14 KOs) and his opponent Fernando Aguilar (9-6-0, 1 KO) from Mexico both weighed in at 116 pounds, one over the super flyweight limit. But since this will be a non-title fight, the weight is deemed as acceptable.

Pinoy Pride 24 will be held at the Solaire Resort Hotel and Casino in Pasay.
