Floyd Mayweather (45-0-0, 26 knockouts) again used social media to drum up interest for his upcoming bout this May. The undefeated American who currently holds the WBC welterweight and unified WBA and WBC light middleweight titles posted a picture on Instagram with the caption asking the fans to vote who they wanted him to fight next.

“I'm going to let the fans vote. Tell me who I should fight next. Khan or Maidana?” Mayweather posted which also appeared on his Twitter account.

Amir Khan (28-3-0, 19 KOs) and Marcos Rene Maidana (35-3-0, 31 KOs) are the only options for Mayweather’s next fight, the first of his last four fights as he is set to retire in Septermber of 2015.

There were people who voted for Khan and Maidana but there were also those who replied to Mayweather's tweet to voice out their frustration.

Erislandy Lara, the reigning interim WBA light middleweight champion took it as a chance to throw his name on the list of possible opponents for Mayweather in the future.

Although not included in the options, Manny Pacquiao's name popped up many times.

Mayweather likes the idea of fighting Khan because of the rabid British fans who will fly to Las Vegas to see their boy take on the undefeated champion. Mayweather saw the support Ricky Hatton got in their fight and he thinks he could cash in on another opportunity of fighting a British boxer.

Maidana on the other hand crashed into the scene when he defeated Adrien Broner for the WBA welterweight title. Broner is one of Mayweather’s protégés so he might be looking to avenge the loss of one of his boys.

Broner recently said he will use his rematch clause against Maidana but if Mayweather selects Maidana, there’s no doubt that the young fighter will step aside. Khan on the other hand said that he already signed his part of the contract but nothing is final until Mayweather signs his name on the dotted line.

There is of course no guarantee that Mayweather will follow the fans. He’s doing this to perhaps gauge their interest as Khan and Maidana both received lukewarm acceptance as his next dance partner. Maidana, for all of his power, is slow and his straight-forward style perfect for the defensive Mayweather. Khan on the other hand has only won twice against easier opposition after being knocked out by Danny Garcia.

However, if Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach sees this post, he’ll most likely vote for Khan.

“That’s not an easy fight,” Roach told James Slater of FightNews.com. “I’ve always said Amir has the right style to beat Floyd if he fights correctly and doesn’t stay in the pocket too long. I always thought he could beat him with his speed. I think he’s faster than Mayweather and that’s what it takes to beat him. Floyd might have his hands full on the night."
