Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has insisted that Bayern Munich's interest in Javi Martinez has not been waned, despite acknowledging that certain obstacles lie in the way of a possible transfer.
The Bavarian giants have been linked with the midfielder, who represented Spain at Euro 2012, for most part of the summer, and agreed to meet the midfielder's release clause of €40 million with Athletic Bilbao.
However, the former striker admits there are other determining factors which are preventing a move from being engineered, but Martinez's low wage demands mean a move is still a likely outcome.
"We want to sign Javi Martinez for €40m, but there are still legal and tax problems," Rummenigge told FCB.tv.
"These problems could be solved very easily if Bilbao would accommodate us with a bit of help, but they are not doing so.
"We always said that we would never pay €40m for Javi Martinez, but he refrains from high wages to make this possible."
Bayern kick off the new Bundesliga season on Saturday against new boys Greuther Furth.
