Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao has expressed his gratitude after being named Globe Soccer's best player of 2012.
The 26-year-old was awarded the prize at the star-studded event in Dubai, and he was quick to pay tribute to his fellow players at both his club and in the Colombia national squad after a tremendous year on the pitch.
"Without the help of my team-mates at Atletico and in the Colombian national team I couldn't have won what I have won," he told reporters upon receiving the trophy.
Falcao remained coy on whether or not he felt he was a worthy winner, adding: "I'm not the right person to decide who has been the best player this year. There are people who are qualified to make that decision. I'm very happy about the trophies won with Atletico and for the amount of goals I've scored. This is all very important in my career."
The former Porto forward was equally pleased to represent his home country at the event in the Middle East, stressing the importance of putting Colombian football on the map.
"It's very important to me and for Colombian football to be present at these events and to win this type of prize," he continued. "It makes me happy to be able to put the name Colombia in the limelight, so it is known around the world."
