Football: Jedinak helps Palace secure first home win

Mile Jedinak helped Crystal Palace secure their first home win of the season as the Australia midfielder netted the decisive goal in a 2-0 win over Leicester City on Saturday. Jedinak bagged his first goal of the season in last weekend's surprise victory at Everton and the Palace star killed off Leicester at Selhurst Park with a clinical header after Fraizer Campbell's opener moments earlier. Neil Warnock's side have now won back to back Premier League matches to climb the table following a troubled start to the season featuring previous manager Tony Pulis's shock departure on the eve of the campaign. For newly-promoted Leicester, their second defeat of the season was a reality check after last weekend's remarkable 5-3 victory over Manchester United. Jamie Vardy had tormented United's defence in that epic Leicester comeback and he had an early sight of goal in south London when Leonardo Ulloa headed down a long ball in the Palace penalty area. Grabbing possession six yards from goal, Vardy fired in a snap-shot that was palmed away by Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni. The rebound fell to Vardy's team-mate David Nugent, but his shot was deflected away for a corner. Palace gradually began to find some rhythm and Jason Puncheon hit a superb strike towards the bottom corner, but the winger's effort was palmed away by Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. Vardy had another opportunity when he controlled Esteban Cambiasso's lofted pass, only to produce a poor finish which didn't match the quality of the build-up. Leicester threatened again when Nugent's goalbound shot was deflected wide by Joel Ward after good work by Vardy early in the second half. That proved to be the turning point as Palace took the lead in the 51st minute. Yannick Bolasie's cross was pushed over by Schmeichel and, from the resulting corner, Campbell struck as he prodded home Scott Dann's header from virtually on the goal-line. Warnock's team doubled their lead three minutes later when Jedinak rose to meet Puncheon's free-kick and headed past Schmeichel from 12 yards. The Foxes lacked any bite as they struggled to respond and Palace substitute Marouane Chamakh nearly added a third from a Ward cross in the closing stages.
