Cardiff soared to the top of the table after debutant Ben Nugent opened the scoring as the Bluebirds won 2-1 at Barnsley. However, there was bad news for Cardiff as Simon Lappin was sent off in injury time after picking up his second yellow card as the visitors edged the win.
Crystal Palace dropped to second place after goals from Paul Green and Luciano Becchio gave Leeds a two-goal lead at Elland Road. Palace managed to grab a goal back but it was not enough to maintain their five-match undefeated record.
Former Manchester United defender Danny Drinkwater was amongst the goalscorers for Leicester who are in third place as Sheffield Wednesday lost their fourth game in a row.
Nottingham Forest came back from going a goal down early on at Wolves. Finishes from Adlene Guedioura and Billy Sharp ensured Stale Solbakken's side have now gone eight games without a victory.
Charlton looked set to earn all three points against Huddersfield until they conceded a late spot kick. Adam Clayton calmly slotted home the penalty to ensure the game finished 1-1.

A brace from former Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick helped a dominat MK Dons thrash Colchester United 5-1 at home.
Meanwhile, Doncaster sit just behind MK Dons after their impressive 4-0 win against Scunthorpe United at the Keepmoat Stadium.
Bury looked to seal a win against Bournemouth but Brett Pitman was able to equalise late on as the game finished 2-2 at Gigg Lane.
However, the gap at the top of the table was reduced as leaders Tranmere Rovers drew 1-1 away at Stevenage with Gred Tansey scoring a late equaliser for the hosts.
Leyton Orient won comfortably at home to Preston North End, Mathie Baudry and Kevin Lisbie were on the scoresheet in a 2-0 victory that leaves the hosts 13th in the table.

League leaders Gillingham dropped points as they drew 1-1 away at Accrington Stanley thanks to an equaliser from the penalty spot by former England striker James Beattie.
