In-form GlobalPort sends Blackwater crashing down the cellar

GlobalPort Batang Pier grabbed the fifth spot in the standings of the 2015 PBA Commissioner’s Cup after an easy 101-78 victory over the Blackwater Elite, Sunday afternoon at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Terrence Romeo was named the Best Player of the Game with 25 points and six rebounds. GlobalPort import Calvin Warner only scored 17 points in the game but he dominated the boards as he grabbed 30 rebounds while adding two assists and three blocks.

Marcus Douthit led Blackwater with 19 points and 17 rebounds while rookie Brian Heruela gave a good account of himself once more with 17 points, three rebounds, and seven assists.

With their first winning streak of the conference, GlobalPort moved up to 4-3 in their win loss tally while Blackwater drops down to the bottom of the pile with one win against five losses.

GlobalPort dominated the rebounding in the first half as they already had 39 rebounds compared to only 19 for Blackwater. They only led by a single points after the first half but they As a result the Batang Pier outscored the Elite 11-3 in second chance points to lead 50-37 after the first 24 minutes.

Terrence Romeo led all scorers with 13 markers in the first half including a late triple that gave them a 13-point advantage. Calvin Warner on the other hand did not score a lot with eight points but he grabbed 16 huge rebounds.

Marcus Douthit had 10 points at the half but he shot a miserable 3 for 10 clip from the field.

GlobalPort turned the second half into a highlight show as even Ronjay Buenafe was able to get a fast break dunk. Warner started the fourth quarter with a bang sa he slammed home a Romeo miss to give Blackwater a 76-56 lead. Warner added a reverse follow up dunk off a Jewel Ponferada miss to complete the best game of his young PBA career so far.

The Batang Pier were on cruise control the rest of the way as Blackwater never really threatened a comeback.

The Main Man: Romeo was the catalyst for GlobalPort’s offense as he scored a game high 25 points.

Honorable Mentions: Aside from Warner, Buenafe also had a good game with 15 points while Stanley Pringle added 10 points four rebounds, and three assists.

Game Turning Point: GlobalPort started the second quarter with an 11-2 run to build their first double digit lead of the game at 32-22. The Elite never threatened at any point as the Batang Pier’s lead ballooned to 27 points at 90-63.

Stat of the Game: The Batang Pier grabbed a season high 74 rebounds in the contest against Blackwater’s measly 45.
