Lakers and Clarkson out, Hawks and Holt through, after day one of Las Vegas Summer League postseason
Jordan Clarkson and the Los Angeles Lakers were blown out by the Philadelphia 76ers and a familiar Petron Blaze Boosters import, while Stephen Holt got the start and helped the Atlanta Hawks eliminate the defending champions Golden State Warriors, in day one of the postseason round of the 2014 NBA Las Vegas Summer League.
The Hawks, who hadn’t won a single game up to this point, started Fil-Am guard Stephen Holt, who produced 4 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists in 22 minutes of action. Atlanta won the low-scoring affair, 68-65, as the Warriors managed just 36.5 percent shooting.
Later in the day, the Lakers scored just 10 points in the second period, and only seven in the fourth, which led to an 85-63 demolition job at the hands of the Philadelphia 76ers, who previously came out on top of the 2014 Orlando Summer League. Another Fil-Am guard, Jordan Clarkson, produced 11 points for the Lakers, and tied the team-high in rebounds with six. He also had two assists, two steals and a block.
Leading the 76ers was Elijah Millsap, who had a memorable stint as a Petron Blaze Booster in the 2013 Governors Cup. Millsap, the younger brother of Paul Millsap of the Hawks, came off the bench to score 19 markers on 5-of-7 field goal shooting, and hit a 9-of-12 clip at the foul line. He also had three rebounds, two assists and a whopping seven steals.
One other former PBA import had a good showing. Tony Mitchell, who had a two-conference stint with the Talk ’N Text Tropang Texters in 2013, exploded for 26 points, to pace the NBA D-League Select squad to an 87-75 triumph over the Denver Nuggets.
Mitchell shot 9-of-12 from the field and canned all but two of 10 charities, while also chipping in four rebounds.
