Words of encouragement as well as sympathy from fellow collegiate players poured in for Letran guard Franz Dysam, a day after he survived a shooting incident that claimed the life of his partner Joanne Sordan.

Former Letran superstar Kevin Alas was among the first players to react to the incident that has shaken the local basketball community.

In an official statement released by Letran College Sunday, the 5-foot-9 Dysam sustained six gunshot wounds while Sordan received only one but proved to be fatal as she was declared dead on arrival at the San Juan Medical Center.

"Like a gallant knight, Franz protected his girlfriend during the incident that got him six gunshot wounds. While only one shot was received by his girlfriend, it was too fatal that she was declared dead on arrival by the hospital where they were first brought. Their three-month old child is safe."

Dysam, who saw action in the Knights’ 61-53 win over the Lyceum Pirates on Saturday afternoon, is reportedly now in a stable condition and will be move to University of Santo Tomas Hospital.

The horrific incident clearly rocked the collegiate basketball world and Dysam’s fellow Knights, Kevin Racal and former gunner Kevin Alas, were the first ones to react.

The school’s official statement also added, “The Letran community is behind Franz in his rally. All assistance, including moral and spiritual, is given him. He is consistently being prayed for especially by the Letran priests. Franz is thankful to all who are praying for him and his family, especially to the Letran community who never left him in this trying times.

"Letran officials pray for the speedy recovery of Franz and wish for the fast resolution of the case. We also pray for the eternal repose of the soul of Joanne Sordan.”

The statement added that police investigators now have CCTV footage of the shooting which will hopefully help identify the shooters.

"The investigation is still ongoing although there is already lead being looked by the investigators handling the case. Said lead, as advised by the investigation body, cannot be disclosed yet. The CCTV footage that captured the incident and to identify the gunmen was already with the police authorities."
