Lyon boss Remi Garde has admitted his disappointment with how this season's domestic campaign has turned out, paying particular notice to the French club's failure to qualify for the 2012-13 edition of the Champions League.

Cemented in fourth position in Ligue 1 with two matches to play, Lyon look set to stay in their current spot as they are six points ahead of Stade Rennais and eight points behind Lille.

Despite this, Garde has asked that his side do not rest on their laurels.

“We want to finish as high as possible, with maximum possible victories and the highest number of points,” he said, speaking to Foot365.

"It's a shame. We were too inconsistent, we had too many defeats and missed opportunities against teams ranked behind us.”

However, Garde remains upbeat that the fortunes of the club are going to change in the near future, believing that the side are in transition.

"It's not the end of the club and it's not the end of the world – we are in a transition period."

Lyon travel to AC Ajaccio on Sunday.
