Millsap, Wall, Beal the first cuts from Team USA – Yahoo report

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported Tuesday (PHL time) that Team USA have made Paul Millsap, John Wall and Bradley Beal their first cuts, in forming their 12-man roster for the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

Wall and Beal comprise the young backcourt of the Washington Wizards, while Millsap was a late addition to the training camp pool, brought in to give the squad options after Kevin Love and Blake Griffin opted out of national team duty.

Coupled with the injury to Paul George, that leaves 16 guys battling for 12 spots, with guards Stephen Curry, Derrick Rose, and James Harden, plus forwards Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis, as the five locks.

Battling it out to become the team’s third point guard are Damian Lillard and Kyrie Irving. Looking to fill the wings are DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Korver, Klay Thompson, Chandler Parsons and Gordon Hayward. Finally, DeMarcus Cousins, Kenneth Faried, Andre Drummond and Mason Plumlee are the choices up front.
