Singapore's National Football Academy (NFA) Under-15 boys succumbed to their second successive defeat in the inaugural FAM-Frenz U15 ASEAN Champions Trophy as they went down 4-0 to Thailand’s Chonburi FC at the Yishun Stadium on Saturday.
Nazri Nasir’s boys, who are using this tournament at part of their preparations for the upcoming 25th Canon Lion City Cup in June, had opened the campaign a week ago with a 2-1 defeat against Frenz United of Malaysia.
Chonburi’s Sittichok Paso scored the opening goal of the match prior to the half-time interval and despite the hosts showing glimpse of their attacking prowess and holding out well at the back, they eventually crumbled and conceded thrice more before the end of the match.
Kritthanaphong Paiden added the second before Sittichok completed his brace, and Nattawut Chootiwat completed the rout with a successful conversion from the penalty spot.
The NFA U15s are scheduled to meet Vietnam PVF Football Academy next on June 18 in Ho Chi Minh, but have sent in a request to re-schedule the match as the Lion City Cup ends on June 16.
The group stages of this tournament will run till July 27 and the top two from each group will meet in a two-legged semi final in August. The final is scheduled to take place on August 24 and September 1, and the champions of the tournament will walk away with a grand prize of USD 100,000.
