Perasol loses cool, goes after La Salle heckler

Ateneo coach Bo Perasol figured in a verbal altercation with a La Salle supporter, moments after the Blue Eagles dropped a close 64-66 decision against the Green Archers in their much-awaited battle in the UAAP Season 76 men’s cage action at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

According to reliable witnesses, Perasol was seen trying to climb over the steel barrier to confront the La Sallian who reportedly shouted at the Ateneo coach when both teams were on their way to their respective dugouts.

In a phone interview, Perasol confirmed the incident and gamely defended his side.

“Hindi ko nagustuhan ‘yung pumunta pa siya mismo sa gilid tapos inabangan ako. Tinawag niya akong ‘Perasol!’ tapos may mga sinabi na siyang hindi magagandang bagay,” he said.

“Hindi naman kasi kailangan ng ganun pa. Talo na nga tapos pagsasabihan mo pa ng hindi magaganda. Foul ‘yun at hindi nakakatuwa,” added the former pro league mentor.

In a hotly-contested match before more than 16,000 paying fans, Perasol reached his boiling point when forward Ryan Buenafe failed to get a call in his strong drive against a phalanx of Green Archer defenders, storming to the court and confronting game officials.

He was assessed a technical foul, enabling Almond Vosotros to stretch La Salle’s lead to 63-59 going to the final minute.

Reports on Twitter quoted the La Salle fan as saying "thank you" to Perasol, in reference to that technical foul that gave the Green Archers an extra two points.

Although the Blue Eagles saw an end to their five-game winning surge, no thanks to Jeron Teng’s clutch floater with 1.9 seconds left, Perasol stated “it just went down to the breaks of the game.”

“What can I ask for? I had our best defender (Chris Newsome) on Teng. Kaso nakalusot pa rin,” he said.
