Serge Ibaka expected to be out for the rest of the playoffs
Trouble in Oklahoma.
OKC Thunder power forward Serge Ibaka is reportedly out for the remainder of the season. The NBA’s leading shot blocker suffered a Grade 2 strain on his left calf in their Game 6 clinching win over the LA Clippers.
Without Ibaka, the Thunder have their hands full against the defending Western Conference champs, the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs have proven themselves as a premier contender this year and they plan to have a Finals date with either Miami or Indiana.
As for Tony Parker, who was sidelined with an injury in their closeout game against the Portland Trailblazers, reports says he is ready to suit up in Game 1 against the Thunder. After his MRI exam, it was only a Grade 1 strain of the left hamstring.
In the postseason, Serge Ibaka has been averaging 12.2pts, 7.3 rbs, and 2.23 blks. His much improved midrange game, his defense, his presence, and his patented “What a block!!!” moments will surely be missed.
The odds have not been in favor for OKC in the last two seasons. In 2012, they were thoroughly outplayed by the Miami Heat in the Finals. In last year’s playoffs, Westbrook’s injury had them hobbled and missed their chances for a title yet again.
This year looks like it’s going to be another uphill climb for the Thunder.

“We are obviously disappointed for Serge, as he is a tremendous competitor, and we know how badly he wants to be on the court with his teammates,” Thunder GM Sam Presti said in a statement.
“At this point it is important that our team directs its concentration and energy towards preparation and execution of our upcoming series. As with all teams, our group has confronted different challenges. It is our collective experience that we will call on to ensure that we play to our capabilities.”
