Singapore coach peeved at question about him and Weiss

Singapore coach Raddy Avramovic and Philippine coach Michael Weiss speak to the press before their 2nd leg showdown at Jalan Besar Stadium on Wednesday. The first leg ended 0-0..

Let’s just focus on the match.

During a press conference Tuesday for the second-leg of their AFF Suzuki Cup semifinals tie, Singapore coach Raddy Avramovic appeared disgusted with a Singaporean journalist, who was apparently trying to play up some supposed friction between the Serbian mentor and German counterpart Hans Michael Weiss of the Philippines.

“You created all of this,” he said with an irritated look on his face and pointing to his right where the reporter was positioned.

Weiss didn’t bite either, opting to express praise for Avramovic, saying: “I have great respect for a man who has stayed nine years in the country and gave you two titles.

“I see what he puts in the pitch. I always have respect and also interested in people who have more experience than me. I never had a problem with coach Rado, never,” he stressed.

Both sides figured in a scoreless draw last Saturday in the series opener at the packed Rizal Memorial football stadium, leaving their hopes equally hanging in the balance.

“Our job is not done yet. It’s another game, another 90 minutes. I’ll be happy if they show the same spirit,” stated Avramovic.

“I don’t think you can guarantee anything. That’s the reason why football is always unpredictable. We must do our part. We have quality and experience. To go to the finals–this is our target.”

The Azkals will welcome midfielder Jerry Lucena back into the fold and Weiss likes his team’s chances, saying: “Everybody’s excited. Everybody must deliver now. You have to show on the field and do everything to if you want to be in the final.

“I don’t concentrate on an individual. The team is making the difference.  Singapore is a strong unit, has good concept, and plays to its strengths. As a coach, we have to find the formula and the right strategy. We have slight advantage on experience and hunger. I hope those can make up for that,” he added.
