Even without the services of top gun Roi Sumang, University of the East managed to spoil what could be Leo Austria's farewell stint as Adamson head coach.

With imposing reinforcement Charles Mammie leading the charge on both ends, the Red Warriors carved out a masterful 77-60 victory Saturday afternoon in what may very well be Austria’s last game for the Falcons in the UAAP Season 76 men’s cage action at the MOA Arena.

With the 5-foot-8 Sumang watching from the sidelines while recuperating from strained right calf muscle, the 6-foot-7 Mammie frolicked in the paint with 24 points and 24 rebounds as UE snapped a four-game slid and improved to 6-7 overall. UE also avenged a 71-78 defeat in their initial meeting last July 10 with Adamson, the season’s host which dropped to 4-10.

Celedonio Trollano Jr. led Adamson with a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Power forward Rodney Brondial scattered six points and seven rebounds in his last game for the Falcons.

Also graduating for Adamson were Harry Petilos, Gian Abrigo , Mike Agustin and Eric Cabigas.

The Main Man: If he could play like this all the time, Charles Mammie could really help UE’s bid to make it back to the Final Four next season.

The Sierra Leone native showed no mercy against the Ingrid Sewa-powered Adamson frontline, coming through with a monstrous outing of 24 points and as many rebounds, 10 of the coming offensively.
Mammie also pumped in 15 markers in the second half where the Red Warriors took full control.

Honorable Mention: Coming off the bench, Bong Galanza showed a glimpse of what he can provide for UE.

The wingman ably filled the shoes of Roi Sumang as he finished with a season-high 17 points, including three triples, while emerging as the surprise back-up for Mammie in the fourth canto.

Game Turning Point: Holding just a seven-point lead after the first 30 minutes, UE refused to give Adamson any chance to comeback as Mammie and Galanza teamed up in scoring all but two of the team’s 15 points in the fourth canto.

He Said It:
UE coach Boycie Zamar: “We came back from that aching loss. Sumang can play but somebody has to fill his shoes. Andun naman si Galanza. But it’s a collective effort from them. Importante naakyat namin ang morale ng players.”
