Anthony “Rumble” Johnson re-signed by UFC, set to fight Phil Davis
Last week, UFC president Dana White revealed that he and matchmaker Joe Silva were "talking about" former UFC welterweight Anthony Johnson. Today, White announced that the UFC had re-signed "Rumble," this time as a light heavyweight.
After having trouble making welterweight and middleweight for years, Johnson was released by the UFC and has since strung together six consecutive wins at light heavyweight and heavyweight in other promotions. Now, he'll have a chance to jump right into the top five of the UFC's 205 pound division.
"Riding a six fight win streak, Anthony Johnson will make his UFC return against #4 ranked light heavyweight Phil Davis at UFC 172," White tweeted Tuesday morning.
UFC 172 takes place April 26 in Baltimore. The card is headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and challenger Glover Teixeira.
Davis has won three straight fights since losing a decision to former champion Rashad Evans in 2012. In his last fight, "Mr Perfect" won a decision over former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida, who now competes at middleweight.
