CLEAR Dream Match preview, plus UFL All-Star game ideas

Sibling rivalry will be on the spotlight when Team Phil takes on Team James this Saturday night at the University of Makati Football Stadium in the Clear Dream Match.

The game features teams composed of Pinoy Footballers and celebrities that the Younghusband brothers chose in a draft last August 11.

Phil's XI features a tough defense in the form of Kaya goalkeeper Saba Sadeghi Garmaroudi, Loyola Meralco Sparks Park Min Ho and Roxy Dorlas, plus Pachanga's Yves Ashime, and Armand Del Rosario from Kaya.

The Azkal striker will partner with Yannick Tuason up top and rely on Loyola team mates Byeong Jeong Yeol and Davide Cortina in the midfield.

Phil also selected Footballing celebrities Paolo Bediones, Daniel Matsunaga, and Tony Toni to join him.

"I think defensively we are very strong and I believe for a team to do well, it is vital you have a good base and defense. We also have a good mix of experience and enthusiasm" said Phil about his selections.

James Younghusband is fielding a quality squad with Nate Burkey and Eric Dagroh of Kaya up top.

The Azkals midfielder will pin his hopes on a celeb-heavy midfield of Slick Rick, Jake Cuenca, Marvin Kiefer, and Ateneo's Mikko Mabanag.

His defense will be manned by Kaya stalwarts Nico Bolzico, Anton Del Rosario, and Jonah Romero alongside Loyola's Patrick Ozaeta. He may choose between Patrick Deyto of Green Archers in goal or his Loyola keeper, Ref Cuaresma.

"We have a lot of good players" says James. "We obviously have the Kaya connection as well as players who play regularly in the UFL. And especially all my players have that winning attitude!"

Fans selected the pool of players via votes on the Clear Facebook page.

Live TV coverage is on Saturday, 8pm on AKTV.

Proceeds of the match will go to the Tuloy sa Don Bosco Foundation.

This will be the closest thing to an All-Star Game the UFL will be having this year. Perhaps in the next season we could enjoy not just one, but several All-Star Game concepts. Here are some for all of you to mull over.

Azkals versus UFL Africa Selection. African players have spiced up the UFL with their technical ability and athleticism. It's time the finest Africans played as a team and challenged the RP squad. I'd have Global's Jerome Etoundi in goal with Yves Ashime organizing the defense along with Val Kama from Global. You can choose from Green Archers Gabe Olowoyeye and Ayi Nii and Kaya sparkplugs Alu Kigbu and Prince Mark Boley in the midfield. Up top Global's Izo Elhabbib can partner Eric Dagroh from Kaya. Perhaps Nomads' Dominic Mensah can also get a chance to show his wares. It will be a tough game for the National team for sure.

Barotac Nuevo versus The Rest Of The World. Can a team from one town hang with the Rest of the World? There's only one way to find out. The Football Capital of the Philippines will have Ian Araneta and Balot Doctora up top, with Army's Yok Becite, and Meliton Pelayo in the midfield with Chieffy Caligdong on the left wing. You could also throw Stallions' Antonio Albor and Ansing Gustilo in the mix. The defense can feature Boogie Margarse and Roel Gener of Army and Stallion Wilson Munoz in goal. Their opponents could have Italy's Davide Cortina of Loyola in the midfield with Adrien Semblat and Argentinian Nico Bolzico filling up the back four. Jeff Blake, the Nomads American keeper, will mind the net. I'd put Korean Stallions like Pi Jong Yae and Lee Joo Yeong in the attack plus Pasargad's amazingly gifted Mohammad Ohadi from Iran.

Iloilo versus Negros. Let the battle for bragging rights across the Panay Gulf begin! Iloilo could be represented by the Barotac Nuevo team plus a few others from neighboring towns, like Stallions' Bervic Italia and new Air Force recruit Neckson Leonora, who both hail from Santa Barbara. Negros is seething with Football quality. Dumaguete could contribute Loyola regulars like Jayson Cutamura, Jake Morallo and Alexandro Elnar. Negros Occidental stars like Jalor Soriano and his brothers Janrick and Jalsor could provide a spark in the midfield along with a host of players from Pachanga. And don't forget San Carlos City's Tating Pasilan and Arnie Pasinabo, both from Green Archers. Josh Beloya of Kaya, who played in the champion Negros Occidental team in the Suzuki U23, can suit up for Negros too. Negros has produced many national team goalkeepers. Ed Sacapano or Ref Cuaresma can don the gloves.

UFL over-34 versus Philippines U22. It's experience versus youthful speed. Might those graybeards teach the young whippersnappers a thing or two? The Silver selection could feature Freddy Gonzales and Barsales in attack. The ageless Jez Tonog of Air Force can create with Army's Jeffrey Lobaton in the midfield. The back line can include Martin Doctora from Air Force as well as Margarse and Gener. Throw in Global vet Yu Hoshide as well. In goal will be Tats Mercado of Air Force, who has loads of international experience. Navy can be represented by Marlon Pinero and Loreto Kalalang. I say the U22 team of Jeffrey Christiaens, OJ Porteria, and Paolo Pascual might be in for a surprise.

Global FC versus UFL Division 2 All-stars. The Div 1 league champions take on the cream of the crop in Division 2. The second tier is stuffed with amazing players who deserve more attention, like Romnick Jover from Sunken Garden, former Azkal Ariel Zerrudo of Diliman, Agyie Isaac from Forza, and Cebu Queen City's Dan Villarico. I'd reserve a spot for Diliman midfielder Jay Eusebio as well as Ousseynou Dip and Jovin Bedic from Pachanga. This squad could be handful for Global.
