UFL: Global stays perfect, Kaya and Nomads draw, and Javier Patino pays a visit

Match reports from Tuesday's games at the Emperador Stadium.

Global 5, Green Archers United Globe, 1.

Global outclassed the Archers and look very much on course for a League title run to match last year's championship.

Two goals from Izo Elhabbib plus scores from Carlie de Murga, Patrick Reichelt, and Marvin Angeles gave the champs their third win in as many matches.

Tating Pasilan scored the Archer's only goal five minutes into the second half for a team that is experiencing a nightmare start: three losses in their first three outings.

De Murga opened the scoring in the twelfth minute with a long-range effort that deflected in past United keeper Patrick Deyto.

Three minutes later Elhabbib wowed the crowd with a free kick goal for two nil.

The Archers halved the deficit in the 50th when a weak Shag Shapay Johnson shot was turned into a throughball by an alert Pasilan. The striker rounded keeper Roland Sadia and struck for 2-1.

But just six minutes later Elhabbib knocked in a looping ball from the endline from close-range to restore the lead.

The Archers complained to referee Michael Barajas that the ball had crossed the line before the goal but the officials were not moved.

At the hour mark Reichelt speared in Global's fourth off a sensational pass from Ben Starosta. The Polish-British Starosta had a wonderful game, setting up threats and harrying the Archers on defense.

Elhabbib nearly got his hat trick in spectacular fashion but his 73rd minute volley slammed into the upright.

Six minutes from time substitute Marvin Angeles threaded in a gorgeous long range grounder that evaded the outstretched palms of Deyto and into the low left corner for the final score.

Global clicked like a well-oiled machine with a slick passing game. Meanwhile the Archers miscommunicated on several passing sequences and even in one free kick.

United did, however, get a superb performance from Dodz Pasinabo, who battled hard in vain.

Global Team owner Dan Palami still feels his team has a way to go.

“Slowly we're getting to 100%. Right now we're at 80%.”

OTHER NOTES: Marwin Angeles did not dress. He was recovering from a tooth extraction.... Global were without coach Bryan Reid, who was back in Scotland for personal business. Palami called the shots in his absence.... Azkals coach Michael Weiss watched as did goalkeeper coach Pascal Zuberbuhler.... United replaced both of their wingbacks. Ronnie Aguisanda was sacrificed for Tommy Escoltero while Dodong Villareal made way for Arvin Gaspe as coach Dolfo Alicante tried but failed to find a winning formula for the back four.

Kaya 0, Nomads Manila, 0.

After ninety minutes of scrappy Football, Kaya and Nomads battled to a standoff, meaning both clubs are now at four points after three games.

Mickael Cardoso Da Nieves threatened twice in the early going for Nomads, as did surprise starter Kenshiro Daniels for Kaya.

Steve Borill could have scored for Nomads but his 57th minute free kick was a foot over the bar. Fidelis Nnabuife also had his share of chances for Nomads.

Kaya were reduced to ten men in the 65th when Kross Ubiam got his second yellow for a challenge on Borill.

The game became ten-a-side when Nomad Ferdinand Atangana was given his marching orders after his second yellow, a harsh tackle on Anton Del Rosario, who was introduced as a holding midfielder.

Deep in stoppage time substitute Sean Iliff might have given Kaya a winner but his header sprayed wide.

OTHER NOTES: Nomads coach John Jofre is the most quotable coach in the UFL. This is what the Scot had to say after the game. “When I looked at how bad they (Kaya) were, I thought we should have won the game.” Jofre also described Atangana's expulsion off a foul on Del Rosario as “brainless” saying “Anton is about 70 years old. He's not going to beat you for pace now is he?... Kaya coach Maor Rozen served a suspension entering the field during the melee against the Archers. But he did communicate with his players from the other side. When asked who his Man Of The Match was, the Uruguayan said “The referee and the officials. They did their job perfect.” He seemed to make the statement without any sarcasm.... The Ultras Kaya were in fine form on Tuesday, and in a heartwarming moment late in the game, ten-year-old Shane Clemente was given the bullhorn and he lead the Ultras in their “Come on you boys in black” cheer.... Soon-to-be Azkal Javier Patino watched the first half of the Kaya-Nomads game with Weiss, Azkals GK coach Pascal Zuberbhuler, and translator/team staff Rafa Garcia. I chatted with the Fil-Spanish Patino a bit in my broken Spanish. He says his mother is from Cebu but he speaks no Cebuano and very little English. Patino revealed he can play either second (withdrawn) striker or target striker. When asked which famous Football player his game is similar to, he would not answer, saying it is difficult to compare himself with these players. He and the rest of the Azkals coaching staff left at the half.
