751-foot ship grounded in Chesapeake Bay
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — A large ship has gone aground in the lower Chesapeake Bay and the Coast Guard says it has received reports of other ships dragging anchor due to high winds.
Petty Officer First Class Brandyn Hill said the 751-foot vessel ended up in 15 feet of water Tuesday night but was outside the shipping channel and not affecting other traffic. Hill said there were no reports of any injuries or pollution as a result of the grounding near an area north of Norfolk, Va., where ships anchor before pulling into port to unload.
