A familiar face is set to reclaim his post as UAAP basketball commissioner.

Veteran broadcaster Andy Jao has been appointed by host University of the East on Friday afternoon as the top official for basketball-related activities in Season 77, ending months of speculations that involved a handful of notable cage personalities considered for the post.

A former commissioner of the defunct Philippine Basketball League, Jao will assume the position he once held in 2011 when Ateneo hosted Season 74.

Jao, who currently serves as consultant of Talk 'N Text in the pro ranks, was chosen over the likes of celebrated UE alumnus and former senator Robert Jaworski, former PBA commissioner Noli Eala, former PBL head Chino Trinidad and Elmer Yanga.

The league's Season 77, riding the theme of "Unity in Excellence," formally gets going with a pair of men's basketball match-ups on July 12 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum, with UE battling University of the Philippines at 2 p.m. and defending champion La Salle squaring off with Far Eastern U at four o'clock.
