Ashley says no Newcastle sale without trophy

Newcastle United fans show flyers calling for the departure of owner Mike Ashley

Newcastle United's under-fire owner Mike Ashley broke his silence on Sunday by vowing not to sell the club until they win a trophy or qualify for the Champions League. The British billionaire, founder of the Sports Direct sportswear chain, has come under attack from supporters this season for allegedly putting profit over results. Newcastle went into their final game of the Premier League season at home to West Ham United at risk of relegation, but Ashley vowed to turn the club around. "I will continue my policy of investing in the football club," he told Sky Sports at St James' Park in a rare media interview. "I shan't be selling the club until we win something. Not at any price. When I say win something, if we get in a position of Champions League, that equals winning something."
