Basketball: AEK's Mensah-Bonsu positive on doping

AEK Athens' British centre Pops Mensah-Bonsu has tested positive for amphetamine use by the National Anti-Doping Council, his Greek Basketball League club announced Friday. The team said it will wait for a second test before deciding on the 31-year-old former NBA player's fate for the club. Mensah-Bonsu tested positive after a league game between AEK and Trikala on April 18 at the Athens Olympic indoor stadium. The Tottenham-born player is to face a sports judge for punishment if the second test sample is also positive for the forbidden substance. Mensah-Bonsu played college basketball for George Washington University in the U.S. and had short stints in the NBA with the Dallas Mavrericks, San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors, Houston Rockets and New Orleans Hornets. He also played for European clubs Benetton Treviso, Granada, Joventut Badalona, CSKA Moscow, ASVEL, Besiktas, Sevilla, Emporio Armani Milano, Galatasaray Liv Hospital and Hapoel Jerusalem. Mensah-Bonsu joined AEK this season.
