Benzema helps Real ease past Celtic

Karim Benzema of Real Madrid is congratulated for a second half goal by teammates Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria (R) during the match against Celtic at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Real Madrid won 2-0

French star Karim Benzema inspired Real Madrid to a 2-0 victory over Celtic as the Spanish champions wrapped up their pre-season tour of the United States at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday. Jose Maria Callejon opened the scoring for Jose Mourinho's side on 22 minutes before Benzema doubled their lead midway through the second period. Real, who also beat Los Angeles Galaxy, Santos Laguna and AC Milan during their stateside excursion, begin the defence of their league title at home to Valencia next Sunday. Celtic FC suffered a double loss on Saturday. Dylan McGeough was stretchered off the pitch following a collision with Real Madrid's Nuri Sahin when both went up for the ball and Sahin caught McGeough on the chin with his left shoulder. "They think (McGeough suffered) a fractured jaw," Celtic FC coach Neil Lennon said. "He's in a distressing state when I left him. He had an injection and he's on his way to the hospital now. I thought he had a great first half for us and we'll keep our fingers crossed he can make a quick recovery. He may need surgery to repair it, and bit of shock as well. "
