Chantalle Ng seemingly teases cover of iconic 1999 Channel 8 song Watching TV

The actress also posted photos of herself in outfits that were similar to what the artistes wore in the music video.

Well, this is one local ‘90s trend that is coming back. In an Instagram post on 17 April, local actress Chantalle Ng announced that she would be dropping a music video soon, but didn’t reveal what song it was.

However, she teased it in a series of pictures that accompanied the post, and it’s one that millennials and older generations who were watching Channel 8 would recognise. Sorry Gen Zs, this one’s not for you.

The photos seem to heavily imply that the song would be the iconic Channel 8 song 看电视, which literally translates to Watching TV, that aired in 1999.

It was just a fun bopper that talked about the joys of watching television, while name dropping popular shows then, and was sung by famous local artistes of that time.

The music video featured veterans like Christopher Lee (sporting a Jerry Yan F4 hairdo), Fann Wong, Zoe Tay, Xiang Yun, Kym Ng, and Guo Liang.

Rounding out the cast are actors who have either left or aren’t seen as frequently on TV now, such as Evelyn Tan, Xie Shaoguang, Ann Kok, the late Huang Wenyong, Chew Chor Meng, and China actor Jerry Chang.

The song was composed and written by xinyao pioneer Liang Wern Fook.

Chantelle Ng's outfits a hint?

In her post, the young actress can be seen wearing outfits that resembled what Ng and Xiang Yun were wearing in the music video, along with their respective screengrabs in the background.

Yet, there were some shots that didn’t come from the music video, so it’s possible that the signs pointing towards Watching TV could be a red herring.

Guess we’ll only know when the song drops - which Ng teased was today but it hasn’t happen.

Oh, and there’ll be a special cameo, according to actress-singer Tasha Low who commented on the post.
