Denzel Bowles not worried about skidding Purefoods

Denzel Bowles received a rude welcome to the PBA as his Purefoods Star Hotshots absorbed a 96-87 loss to the Barangay Ginebra Kings, Sunday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

From holding a share of the top spot, the Hotshots are now in the middle of the pack after their third straight loss with a 4-3 tally.

Bowles is Purefoods’ third import this conference after Marqus Blakely and Daniel Orton. He’s fresh off a stint in the Chinese Basketball Association.

“It’s good to be back. It’s a great atmosphere. I came back at the right time, a big game, but we came up short,” said Bowles who led all scorers with 31 points but only had six rebounds in the contest. “I have to get more familiar again. I know the basics but I have to jell with the team a little bit more.”

The former Best Import awardee who towed the B-Meg Llamados to the 2012 PBA Commissioner’s Cup title considered his first game back as just “okay.”

“It was okay. I got my second wind by the fourth quarter at the end. It jus takes a little time. I just got here a day ago so it’s okay. I’m just a little rusty. I got a lot of time until our next game on Sunday. I should be ready by then,” he said pointing to another big match against the San Miguel Beermen.

“We just want to make it to the playoffs. We’re not worried about seeding. We’re not worried about who we play. We just have to get there. We just need to get a couple of people back because there are some guys who are injured but we’ll be alright.”
