Draft Focus: Alex Nuyles Has Mad Hops Too

Draft Focus: Alex Nuyles Has Mad Hops Too

Name: Alex Nuyles

School: Adamson University

Instant Analysis: Alex Nuyles’ stay with the Adamson Falcons was sadly cut short when everything was looking like he would tear up the league. Suffering from a shoulder injury, Nuyles had to see his Falcons fall once again as he had his eyes set on the PBA. The shoulder problem was bad. What’s good is that his best asset is the furthest thing from his arms. It’s his hops.

I was able to see Alex Nuyles really blossom into a star in the UAAP. Seeing him from the sidelines while I was reporting for the Falcons had me thinking PBA the first time I saw him. He was always armed with a pro-ready body, hops that will put some players to shame, and a great work ethic. Five years later, he is about to make my premonition come true.

He might not be the best offensive player, but he will try his best to be. He might not be the best defensive player, but he won’t give up on the defensive end. He has some insane athleticism and that is what will make him such an intriguing pick. The only concern will be if he can still be that athletic freak that he was with kids now that he will be up against the big boys.

Projection: Mid- to late-first round

Best-case Scenario: Chris Ellis’ next opponent at the Slam Dunk contest.

Worst-case Scenario: Chris Ross’ next victim with a crossover.
