Football: City skipper Kompany dropped for Leicester clash

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany was dropped for Wednesday's Premier League clash against Leicester as the Belgium defender paid the price for a poor run of form. Kompany had been rock solid at centre-back during City's charge to the English title last season, but he has struggled to reproduce those kind of dominant performances this term. The 28-year-old was widely criticised for his efforts in defeats against Barcelona and Liverpool in the last week and he found himself left on the bench at Eastlands as City tried to close five-point gap to leaders Chelsea. City boss Manuel Pellegrini also axed right-back Pablo Zabaleta, midfield duo Fernandinho and Samir Nasri and striker Edin Dzeko as he sought a response to the poor display in the 2-1 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday. Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony was handed his first City start since his move from Swansea against the division's bottom club.
