Four collegiate players cop special citations

Troy Rosario, Jiovani Jalalon, Gelo Alolino, and Baser Amer will be given special awards by the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps and SMART in the 2014 Collegiate Basketball Awards to be held on Thursday at the Saisaki-Kamayan EDSA.

Rosario heads the list of the special awardees as the UAAP champion National University standout will be feted with the Doctor J Breakthrough Player for his quick emergence as one of the top collegiate players in the country.

Jalalon and Alolino, meantime, will be given the Impact Player award for their intangible contributions to their team’s success with the Arellano Chiefs and NU Bulldogs this season in the recognition dinner supported by Smart Sports, Accel 3XVI and Kohl Industries (Doctor J alcohol, Bactigel hand sanitizer, and Mighty Mom dishwashing liquid).

Baser Amer of San Beda will be given the ACCEL Court General for his leadership with San Beda in the Red Lions’ run to their fifth straight NCAA championship.

Eric Altamirano of NU and Boyet Fernandez of San Beda headline the list of awardees given by collegiate basketball scribes as they will receive the Coach of the Year honor along with Collegiate Mythical Team members Kiefer Ravena of Ateneo, Earl Scottie Thompson of University of Perpetual Help, Ola Adeogun of San Beda, Mac Belo of Far Eastern University, and Jeron Teng of De La Salle.
