WHAT THIS GAME MEANS
Yes, these two teams are in desperate need of a win. Yes, their playoff hopes are hanging in the balance. Yes, the loser will drop down to ninth place. But, for the (at least) 48 minutes of basketball, that doesn’t really matter. It is all about who will have the bragging rights to winning the potentially last Manila Clasico of the season.
Throw out the stats, throw out the records. It’s time for Manila Clasico.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
Big shoes to fill.
It seems that in every Ginebra vs San Mig Coffee game, there is a player that breaks out of a slump, or we see a career game from a ninth or tenth man on the roster. This time around, for the Mixers, it is going to have to happen. If there isn’t, they could be in for a long evening.
With Marc Pingris and Joe Devance unavailable to play due to suspensions, there are big holes that need to be plugged for such an important game. Ping and JDV have had a history of being very good in the rivalry. They always seem to step up when needed the most.
So, who will be the one to give that energy that Pingris provides? Who will cause all sorts of mismatches that Joe brings to the game? It wont be easy, but it is definitely necessary.
WHO TO WATCH OUT FOR
This is his game to put his stamp on. This is his game to show that he is still as good as ever. And with a jam packed Araneta Coliseum, all eyes will be on the James Yap vs Mark Caguioa showdown. Can Caguioa pull off another win against the Mixers?
With Ginebra on the ropes, and the intensity of the crowd making players overly excited, it will be up to Ginebra’s main man to calm everyone down and steady his troops. He has done this so many times before. Now, can he do it again?
