In first game back after shoulder injury, Jeric Teng gets injured again

It must have felt like déjà vu for Jeric Teng.

The University of Sto. Tomas forward suffered a shoulder injury against National University last July 10 after the Bulldogs' Jeoff Javillonar shoved him from behind. The injury was so bad it forced him to miss the Growling Tigers' next five games.

On Saturday, Teng was back on the court in his first game in over six weeks - and ironically the Tigers' opponent happened to be the Bulldogs. He started the game to cheers from the UST crowd.

But the celebration would prove to be short-lived. Midway through the second period, with NU holding a precarious 24-22 lead, Teng raced back down on defense to prevent an NU fast break. He suddenly slowed down and limped to the baseline clutching his right hamstring.

Teng remained on the floor for several minutes before being helped to the UST locker room where his injury was examined. The UST court side reporter, Kristel Batchelor, later reported that the hamstring was not torn, and that it merely cramped up. She added there was a chance that Teng would return to the game, and later he did return to the UST bench.

But midway through the fourth period, Batchelor reported that Teng was done for the game. He is, though, expected to suit up for the Tigers' next game against the Adamson Falcons on August 28.

The Tigers went on to lose to the Bulldogs, 61-75, to sink to 4-5.
