Kobe Paras being recruited by US NCAA’s UC Irvine Anteaters

Just a few months after arriving in the United States to pursue his budding basketball dream, former La Salle Greenhills star and current Cathedral High School student Kobe Paras has been offered a varsity scholarship by an NCAA Division I school.

Although Paras has yet to play in a regular season high school game, since the opening of the new academic year in the US is still a few weeks away, the 6’6” son of PBA great Benjie Paras has made a good account of himself while suiting up for the Phantoms in several pocket tournaments during the course of the summer break.

This includes his stellar performance against Long Beach Polytechnic High during the recent DeMar DeRozan tournament, in which he displayed remarkable marksmanship from the perimeter en route to a 22-point outing, highlighted by three triples.

Given his promising game and tremendous potential, Kobe Paras has caught the eye of the University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine) Anteaters.

A member school of the Big West Conference in the US NCAA, UC Irvine has expressed interest in recruiting the young Filipino swingman as tweeted by recruiting analyst Neal Nieves:

Among UC Irvine’s notable alumni is current NBA head coach Scott Brooks, of the Oklahoma City Thunder, former NBA players Ted Murphy and Tom Tolbert, as well as PBA veteran and ex-PHL National team member Tony Dela Cruz.

Presently ranked as a two-star prospect in the class of 2016 in the UC Irvine recruitment chart, Paras can likely boost his stock even further as the high school season progresses.

Paras is also set to see action for the Philippine youth team in the 2014 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship, in Doha, Qatar, next month.
