Evian dented Ajaccio's chances of survival with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over the Corsicans on Sunday afternoon.
The visitors took the lead after 15 minutes when Benjamin Andre latched onto a fine ball from Paul Lasne, and the midfielder finished with aplomb for his fourth goal of the season.
Celebrations were short lived, however, as Evian equalised within the minute. Cedric Barbosa, continuing a fine debut season in the top division created space to fire past Guillermo Ochoa.
Ajaccio surged forward in search of a goal that could've assured their Ligue 1 place for next season, but instead it would be Evian who grabbed the second, and final goal.
Daniel Wass, on loan from Benfica, expertly curled in a free kick to beat the outstretched Ochoa, and secure all three points. Ajaccio later saw Carl Medjani sent off in the dying minutes.
|Olympique Lyonnais 1-1 Brest
Stade Brest boosted their chances of survival, as well as all but ending Olympique Lyonnais' Champions League hopes with a gritty 1-1 draw at Stade Gerland.
Yoann Gourcuff opened the scoring after the half-hour mark with a fine finish from Mohamadou Dabo's cross. The France international boosted his chances of a call-up to the European Championship squad with his first league goal in months.
Gourcuff was again at the centre of things moments later when his ball towards Lisandro was denied by Brest goalkeeper Steeve Elana.
Alexandre Lacazette also scuppered opportunities to extend the lead, and whilst les Gones' dominance told, they would be pegged back.
Gregory Lorenzi struck home after Lyon failed to clear from a corner with 15 minutes left, ensuring Brest moved out of the drop zone. Lyon now will almost certainly not be in the Champions League for the first time since 1999-2000.
Bordeaux kept up the chase for a Europa League berth, whilst leaving Auxerre rooted to the bottom of the table with a thumping 4-2 victory at Stade de l'Abbe Deschamps on Monday evening.
With Auxerre among a number of clubs fighting for survival at the beginning of play, the onus was on the hosts to hit the ground running. Indeed, they would be behind within seconds through Yann Gouffran's strike.
Four minutes later, Gouffran doubled his tally with a fine finish past a shell-shocked Olivier Sorin. After just eight minutes, Auxerre failed to stem the unrelenting surge from les Girondins, and they fell even further behind as Ludovic Sane directed an effort into the back of the net.
Jaroslav Plasil made it 4-0 just after the commencement of the second half before Olivier Kapo scored twice late on to reduce arrears. It made no difference as Auxerre dropped to the bottom with two games to go.
Lille extended their recent run of good form with a comfortable 3-0 over Caen, who continue to hover precariously above the relegation zone.
After a decent start for les Dogues, they broke the deadlock after 26 minutes when in-form Eden Hazard was fouled inside the box, the referee unhesistant in awarding the penalty.
Brazilian forward Tulio de Melo stepped up to calmly convert the penalty past Alexis Thebaux for 1-0. Ten minutes later, Tulio doubled the lead with a powerful header from Hazard's cross.
Rudi Garcia's men wrapped up a routine win - in their penultimate game at Stadium Lille Metropole - when Hazard sprayed a long through ball to carve open a static Caen defence. Dimitri Payet ensured a 3-0 win with a good strike.
Dijon and FC Lorient both failed to boost their chances of survival, playing out an unhelpful 0-0 draw at Stade du Moustoir.
Patrice Carteron's side were the better of the two sides for the majority of the first half, with a solid midfield enabling Eric Bautheac to fire a teasing effort at stand-in keeper Jeremie Janot.
Lorient, who required Janot's services after two of the goalkeepers suffered injury, improved after the break, and on-loan Arsenal forward Joel Campbell was unlucky to score after an intricate move.
Despite desperate efforts late on, neither side could get on the scoresheet, with the draw meaning Dijon descend into the drop zone.
|Saint Etienne 0-0 Marseille
Saint-Etienne played out a dour 0-0 draw with Marseille in an uninspiring clash at Stade Geoffrey-Guichard on Monday evening.
After a competitive opening period in the Rhone valley, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang spurned a decent opportunity, firing wide at Steve Mandanda's goal.
Loic Remy and Mathieu Valbuena combined well but were denied by an efficient and aware les Verts defence as the sides entered the half with nothing to separate them.
Christophe Galtier's men enjoyed the better of the second half, with Max Gradel and Fabien Lemoine testing Mandanda, as OM were dealt a blow with an injury to Nicolas N'Koulou.
Neither side could issue a decisive blow, as the points were shared. Saint-Etienne remain in sixth, Marseille in 10th.
Sochaux climbed out of the relegation zone for the first time since December with a smash and grab 1-0 victory over Nice at Stade Bonal.
A cagey start in Montbeliard saw les Lionceaux attempt to break the deadlock, though were kept at bay by an inspired Guy N'Dy Assembe.
Despite Nancy beginning to assert their authority, they were unable to issue the killer touch with Daniel Niculae and Reynald Lemaitre failing to trouble Teddy Richert.
Sochaux improved, and were ultimately rewarded with five minutes to go, with a priceless goal. Sebastien Roudet was the scorer, as Eric Hely's side moved out of the drop zone.
Toulouse's European hopes took a further blow as they were held to a 0-0 draw with a spirited Nice side at Stadium Municipal on Monday evening.
It was les Aiglons who hit the ground running, and were unlucky not to be ahead after seven minutes. Kafoumba Coulibaly struck the crossbar with a swerving strike, as le Tefece breathed a sigh of relief.
Alain Casanova's men struggled to create chances, and spurned the few that came that away. Etienne Capoue was the guilty party, striking high and wide.
Rene Marisiglia's men embarked on a late rally to try and gain a hard-earned win, though Franck Djadje's effort flew wide of Ali Ahamada's goal as Nice settled for a point.
