2014 PBA Rookie Draft: What transpired

Here is a complete rundown of what happened during the 2014 PBA Rookie Draft held at Robinsons Place Manila, from the opening remarks to the very last pick. A total of 41 players were chosen by the 12 PBA teams.

 3:50 pm: Commissioner Chito Salud talks about the situation of Paul Lee. He said if the two parties could not settle the issue, it could be elevated to his office.

4:30 pm: There’s a lot of talk about Barako Bull’s number 3 pick, San Mig Super Coffee’s number 7 pick, and Rain or Shine’s number 9 pick. Those could be on the move in a couple of minutes.

4:33 pm: PBA Commissioner Chito Salud formally opens the proceedings. "The PBA Rookie Draft is the lifeblood of the PBA. I invite you [the rookies] to be good examples on and off the court.”

4:37 pm: The PBA honors former PBA Chairman Ely Capacio with a posthumous award.

4:38 pm: A Plaque of Appreciation is given to outgoing PBA Chairman Mon Segismundo of Meralco. Patrick Gregorio is the incoming PBA Chairman for the PBA's 40th Season.

4:40 pm: GlobalPort picks Stanley Pringle.

4:43 pm: Rain or Shine selects Kevin Alas.

4:47 pm: Barako trades the pick to SMB for Chico Lanete, Jojo Duncil, their second round pick in 2014, and their first round pick in 2016. SMB picks Ronald Pascual.

4:50 pm: NLEX picks Matt Rosser.

4:53 pm: Alaska picks Chris Banchero.

4:56 pm: Ginebra selects Rodney Brondial. Ginebra fans here in the venue are very happy with the pick.

5:01 pm: GlobalPort trades its 2018 second round and 2016 first round to SMC for 7th pick and 2016 second round. GlobalPort selects Anthony Semerad.

5:05 pm:
Barako Bull gets Jake Pascual.

5:07 pm: Rain or Shine selects Jericho Cruz.

5:09 pm: Barako Bull selects David Semerad.

5:12 pm: Team KIA drafts the former flyweight, former super bantamweight, former featherweight, former super featherweight, former lightweight, former junior welterweight and the reigning and defending WBO welterweight champion of the WORLD!!!! Manny “The Pacman” Pacquiao.

5:15 pm: Blackwater closes out the first round by picking Juami Tiongson of Ateneo.

5:18 pm: Alaska Aces pick Rome dela Rosa

5:20 pm: Rain or Shine selects Kevin Espinosa of Mapua.

5:22 pm: Barako Bull selects La Salle big Papot Paredes.

5:23: Junjun Alas reunites with his father assistant coach Louie Alas in Alaska.

5:25 pm: GlobalPort picks Prince Caperal.

5:26 pm: Barako Bull picks Philip Morrison

5:27 pm: John Pinto goes to GlobalPort

5:30 pm: Talk 'N Text selects Harold Arboleda of Perpetual.

5:32 pm: Rain or Shine selects Mike Gamboa.

5:33 pm: Originally from SMB, Barako Bull selects Gab Banal.

5:34 pm: Gab Banal cousin is drafted right after him as Blackwater Sports selects Frank Golla.

5:58 pm: KIA Motors selects Kyle Pascual of San Beda College to close out the second round. Only Blackwater Sports and KIA will make picks from this point on.

5:42 pm: KIA Motors picks Rene Pacquiao, head coach/felow draftee Manny Pacquiao's cousin.

5:45: Blackwater Sports selects Brian Heruela.

5:45: Maclean Sabellina also goes to Blackwater Sports.
