Liverpool trio in awards shortlist

Liverpool's striker Luis Suarez takes a shot from a free kick at Upton Park in London on April 6, 2014

Luis Suarez was one of three Liverpool players nominated Friday for England's Professional Footballers' Association player of the year award. The Uruguayan, the leading scorer in the Premier League so far this season, was joined on the shortlist Friday by team-mates Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge, with all three men having played a key role in guiding Liverpool to the top of the table ahead of this weekend's matches. Also vying for the award are Chelsea forward Eden Hazard, Manchester City dynamo Yaya Toure and Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana. However, Suarez is the favourite to win the award, having already scored 29 league goals to help put Liverpool in sight of their first English title in 24 years. Hazard and Sturridge were also nominated for the young player of the year award, along with Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, Everton midfielder Ross Barkley and Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling.
