Mayweather aide confirms mega-fight is close to happening

After Bob Arum bared that Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) has already agreed to all the terms for the mega-fight against Floyd Mayweather (47-0, 26 KOs), the undefeated American’s camp confirmed that the fight is indeed close to being signed.

Sam Watson, a confidant of Mayweather adviser Al Haymon, told Bryan Armen Graham of The Guardian that negotiations are indeed moving along.

“They’re putting it together now,” Watson said. “They’re going to do a Showtime-HBO [joint pay-per-view] like they did last time with Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson. They’re working on the monies now and everything they’ve got to work on to make it happen.”

Pacquiao initiated the discussions for what could possibly be the biggest fight in boxing history after he called out Mayweather immediately after beating Chris Algieri last November.

Mayweather responded weeks later by saying that he wants the fight to happen on May 2. After this, the two camps have silently worked out the details of the fight

“I can’t wait. It’s going to be huge,” Watson said. “I believe it’s going to happen. I believe that everybody involved wants it to happen. I know Floyd wants it.”
