Mayweather to name his opponent this week, Pacquiao 80% sure it’s him

Floyd Mayweather to pick his opponent this week.

The long wait will soon be over as WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather is set to announce his opponent for May 2 later this week.

Steve Bunce of The Independent reported that Mayweather’s choices are down to Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto, and Amir Khan

“It seems that former opponent Miguel Cotto remains a heavy favorite over Bolton’s Amir Khan,” Bunce stated.

Cotto was in deep negotiations with Mexican star Saul Alvarez also for May 2 but it fell apart. Most people thought that this was to allow Cotto to sign a rematch against Mayweather.

Pacquiao, however, thinks that there’s still a big chance that Mayweather would pick him and give boxing fans the mega-fight they’ve long waited for.

“I think it will happen, I believe that,” Pacquiao told Sky Ringside. “If it doesn’t happen now, I don’t think it will, so now is the time. If you ask me what the percentage is, it’s 80-20. I think he’s got pressure.”

Pacquiao’s side has long claimed that they’ve agreed to everything that Mayweather demanded but the American’s camp has remained mum if these demands were indeed made and met.

“He’s got no alibis. Blood testing is no longer a problem. Bob Arum is no longer a problem. Now there are no more problems,” Pacquiao added. “The fans are pressuring him. I tell them we have agreed on everything: the rules and regulations are not a problem. And if you want it higher, I’m happy with that. I will take 40 to 60. I’m okay with that for the sake of the fans.”

“We are just waiting for you to sign the contract.”
