Navy probes report of gunman at San Diego base

SAN DIEGO (AP) — U.S. Naval Base Point Loma in San Diego is being searched after an unconfirmed report of an armed individual there.

The official twitter feed of the Naval Installations Command says without elaboration that two people are in custody but a shelter-in-place order to base personnel remains in effect Thursday afternoon.

Navy spokesman Brian O'Rourke stresses that there are no reports of shots fired.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service and Navy security personnel are on scene.

Home to the Third Fleet command, Naval Base Point Loma is one of the major military facilities located in the San Diego area.
