The reshuffling of San Miguel Corporation's professional basketball teams has reached the executive level as SMC consultant for basketball operations Noli Eala found himself reassigned to another capacity within the huge conglomerate.

According to a statement from SMC, the company "has assigned Mr. Noli Eala, consultant for basketball operations, to help out in the company’s infrastructure businesses as various projects are now either in full swing or at the development stages."

SMC added that "Eala’s managerial expertise and experience with various companies he handled in recent years will be very valuable in his new assignment in infrastructure, one of the high-growth areas for the company.  SMC assures the public, particularly its basketball fans that the operations of its basketball teams will continue to run smoothly despite Eala’s new role in the organization."

The development comes on the heels of the sudden resignation of Barangay Ginebra coach Alfrancis Chua, which drew an uproar from netizens.  Chua merely said he was stepping down for "personal reasons", although speculation was rife that the pony-tailed coach, who led the Kings to the PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals, was dismayed over recent personnel movements that affected the three SMC teams in the PBA.

In the same statement, SMC also announced that Chua is merely going on a leave of absence "during the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup due to personal reasons."
