NBA: Warriors shift sites for new San Francisco arena

Golden State Warriors have acquired a 12-acre site in San Francisco's Mission Bay district, which will be their new home from 2018, the club announced on Tuesday The Warriors, who are level at 1-1 with the Los Angeles Clippers in their NBA first-round best-of-seven playoff series, currently play home games in Oakland but have been looking to move to a newer venue for years. Golden State had previously said they would build a new 18,000-seat venue on piers near San Francisco's Bay Bridge. "We believe Mission Bay is a perfect fit," said Joe Lacob, Warriors' CEO. "It is a wonderful inland site in a dynamic part of the city that is convenient for fans from all over the Bay Area. "We are buying private property, but the city will also get a new waterfront park. It's a win-win for everyone."
