PBA Trade Alert: Ginebra, Meralco Swap Raymundo and Reyes

PBA Trade Alert: Ginebra, Meralco Swap Raymundo and Reyes

The off-season has yet to begin for everyone, and yet teams are already wheelin’ and dealin’!

The Meralco Bolts were involved in their third trade in eleven days as they are starting to rebuild towards a brand new line-up for the Philippine Cup. This time around, they ship big man, Jay-R Reyes, to Barangay Ginebra San Miguel for Kerby Raymundo.

Raymundo, who has been hampered with injuries for the past conference, will be reunited with Coach Ryan Gregorio as he tries to restart his career with the Bolts. Reyes, on the other hand, has the tough task of braking into the rotation for some solid minutes once Ginebra takes one of the three top big men in the PBA Draft.

But, how does it all play out in terms of skill level? Let’s check the #PBARank to find out.

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel receive
Jay-R Reyes (#70 with an average score of 5.67)

Meralco Bolts receive
Kerby Raymundo (#42 with an average score of 6.53)

Right off the bat, you can see that Meralco came out on top of this trade in terms of talent. Raymundo is a proven player that will be given a definite boost in his career once again the moment he gets back into Coach RG’s system. This will also give the Bolts that much needed consistent big man that can put the ball in the hoop when needed.

Throw in the other trades that this team has done, and this is their projected starting five.

C – Kerby Raymundo
PF – Cliff Hodge
SF – Jared Dillinger
SG – Gary David
PG – Mike Cortez

That is not bad. In fact, that looks downright scary for some other teams out there. Then, they will have the likes of Bitoy Omolon, AJ Mandani, and Don Allado still coming off of the bench and you can say that this team has definitely bettered themselves in all three of their transactions these past two weeks.

As for the Gin Kings, this was a move to open up that big man spot on their roster. They didn’t need someone that will clog up that center position once they pick either Greg Slaughter, Ian Sangalang, or Raymond Almazan. This way, whoever they take will have full control of the slot position.

This will be the same way that Junemar Fajardo had the undoubted #1 center spot in Petron. There will be lots of pressure on the young man once he gets there, but it will only make him a better player down the road.

As for Jay-R Reyes, having someone like him to come off of the bench and knock down some outside shots will be a great bonus. Not that many teams have a Top 70 back-up center. Now, Ginebra does.
