Petron. San Mig Coffee. Game 7

WHAT THIS GAME MEANS

Winner takes all.

There can only be a few things in the world that’s more exciting and stressful than a Game 7. This is for all the marbles. The loser will cry out of heartbreak while the winner will have the bragging rights of a champion in the most competitive conference since B-Meg won with Denzel Bowles. I mean, really, when was the last Governors’ Cup conference the imports blended in this well with the locals?

For the San Mig Coffee Mixers, this game is about exorcising their Game 7 demons in last season’s Governors’ Cup. This is their 3rd finals trip in the Tim Cone era, and a 1-2 record will only say that they have a team built to reach the championship series and not to win it. It’s also about them proving that superstars+role players on steroids is still the best formula to win a championship in the PBA (not superstars+superstars for Petron). That formula cultivates the best type of chemistry.

For the Petron Blaze Boosters, this game is completing the total reversal of the bad connotation people have on the term ‘Petronovela’. It’s also about proving that a team of superstars + superstars who sacrificed their numbers can win it all. There’s no doubt that San Mig Coffee is the more experienced team. There’s also no doubt that Petron is the more talented team. Will the Blaze Boosters gain the confidence and experience of a championship team after Game 7?

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

Will vs. fatigue.

These are the minutes the following players logged in Game 6:
Petron: Elijah Millsap – 39, June Mar Fajardo – 38, Arwind Santos – 37, Alex Cabagnot – 43
San Mig Coffee: Marqus Blakely – 43, Joe Devance – 36, James Yap – 36, Marc Pingris – 33

With only a 48 hours of rest, these core guys for both teams might run on fumes in Game 7. So which team will look more tired?

Or which team will have the stronger will to overcome fatigue? The better question is, who really wants it more?

WHO TO WATCH OUT FOR

Bench players.

Which bench mob will produce more?

In a series in which the main gunners of both teams have logged in a lot of minutes, Game 7 could come down to whether Chris Lutz produces more than PJ Simon or if Marklex Barrllari will overpower Alex Cabagnot. Really, we welcome anyone from the bench to step up and enthrall us in Game 7.
