River Plate takes sole lead in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — River Plate took the sole lead in the Argentine first division with a 1-0 win over Velez Sarsfield on Sunday.

Teofilo Gutierrez scored in the 30th minute, taking advantage of a mistake by Velez keeper Sebastian Sosa. Sosa's poor goal kick wound up at the feet of the Colombian, who slotted home from close range.

River improved to 27 points from 15 matches, one clear of Estudiantes and Colon.

Colon drew 0-0 with Belgrano and Racing won 1-0 at Argentinos Juniors in other matches Sunday.

Gimnasia plays Monday against All Boys and could reach 27 points with a victory.

In results Saturday: Rosario Central 0, Estudiantes 0; Quilmes 0, Olimpo 1; San Lorenzo 0, Newell's 0.
