SLAM 1-on-1 with Jimmy Alapag

A month and change after the epic FIBA tourney that we hosted, Gilas Captain Jimmy Alapag checks in with SLAM PH to let us know what’s good with him now.

SLAM: How’s life been, 1 month after FIBA Asia?

JA: Life has been good this last month since the FIBA Asia. To be in Manila and hear so many people say how proud they are of Gilas and to be Filipino has been awesome.

SLAM: How was your vacation? Where’d you go?

JA: Vacation was short, but nice. I was in SF to be the Best Man in Harvey Carey’s wedding. It was great to be around family and old friends. Then I was in LA to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. But the very next night I was on a plane back to Manila to rejoin Talk n Text.

SLAM: Coming back to TNT, as a leader, what else can u take back from that experience to apply to your team now?

JA: I think this stint with Gilas just reaffirmed what can be done when talent, chemistry and heart are combined in one team. A task that may seem almost impossible, can be done.

SLAM: What preparations do you think are needed for Spain? Areas to improve on?

JA: In preparation for Spain, i think first and foremost all of us need to stay healthy. Then, I’m sure Coach Chot and the rest of the staff will figure what type of training we’ll need to have a good showing at the World Championships.

SLAM: Where do you keep your Silver Medal?

JA: My silver medal is still in my room right now.haha:) I look at it everyday as a reminder that our country is back on the world map of basketball. The FIBA Asia was a special 12 days and something i”ll never forget.
