Needs to work on: Ball-handling, outside shooting

Projection: At best – a Kirk Long-like athletic wing who can finish at the rim, strong defensive stopper. At worst – energy guy who just runs all over the floor chasing the ball.

At the scrimmage of the Slam Rising Stars Classic, Clint Doliguez dedicated himself to an immediate task: harass UAAP Season 76 Juniors MVP and future Ateneo Blue Eagles teammate Thirdy Ravena. Clint did everything: ball denial when Ravena played off-ball, ballhawk defense when Thirdy tried to drive off the bounce, physical post defense when the versatile wing tried to score on the low block. Thirdy did score on him with a sweet looking stepback jumper, but not after a good 4-5 minutes of hustling and bustling hiss rear end off against the intense defense of Clint Doliguez. “Yun naman po talaga ang role na ineexpect ko pag naglaro ako sa Ateneo, maging defensive stopper.”

At an athletic 6-1, Doliguez can respectably contribute to Ateneo right off the bat, as he can finish strong with a full head of steam in transition, help out on the boards, and harass opposing wingmen. But one thing that might separate Clint from the rest of the incoming college freshman wingmen is his energy. During the Rising Stars game, the kid just kept going and going and going even when the rest of the players on the floor were pacing themselves as the game went on. He was still D-ing up guys even when the game was winding down. He was coming out of nowhere to grab offensive rebounds and challenge shots. The challenge for Clint is to develop a skill set that will help him maximize his energy and stamina on the floor: he needs to work on his off hand finishing at the rim, his handles, and his outside shooting if he wants to be a productive small forward for the Blue Eagles next season. “Nung nasa Hope po kasi ako, dinadaan ko sa sipag yung laro, kahit nagmimintis kinukuha ko rebound. Kailangan ko pang maging mas efficient tsaka ma-improve yung skills sa wing position.” - JV
