Seniors ready: Next to arguably the top prep star, Thirdy Ravena, Young JP is probably the second most versatile high school baller coming from the UAAP. At 6’4-190, Cauilan has got really good size and he put that to good use back in high school. He played positions 3 thru 5 for the Bullpups, and majority of his PT was spent at the SF spot. He was literally a walking mismatch.
Cauilan can put the ball in the hoop. He even led the Bullpups in scoring over a stretch last season, dropping 18.4 ppg. But, his ability to score in high school was predicated on the physical advantages he had (also has a respectable perimeter game that sometimes extend beyond the 3-point line). So if you translate his skill set in college, he might be little bit raw, but the potential is really there. He’s got great size for a small forward and if he improves on particular facets of the game, he’ll definitely be a force someday.
Needs work on: He would need more agility and snappier moves off the dribble to be an effective SF in college.
Projection: At best, Eric Camson.
