SLAM SNEAKER REVIEW: TONY DELA CRUZ AND THE NIKE LEBRON XI ELITE

What’s up SLAMFam! Welcome back to SLAM SNEAKER REVIEW. This version is a special edition one as we feature the Elite series from Nike. This 2 part Sneaker Review covers the LeBron XI Elite court tested by Tony Dela Cruz and the KD VI Elite by Ryan Reyes to follow.

Here’s TDLC’s take on the Brons:

When SLAM asked me if I wanted to try the new LeBron XI Elite I was like, “Does Pinocchio have wooden balls?” YES!!! A pair of shoes and I get to give my opinion! Where do I sign up? So I decided instead of giving this long-winded explanation of why this shoe is either so great or so horrible I will put it in a context that I hope you SLAM readers will appreciate.

So let’s keep it simple. I will just use 3 areas of criteria on judging and I hope it’s something you use too when buying anything especially shoes for basketball; Price, Functionality, and Style.

Style

TDC5
TDC5

So let’s begin. I will start with style. Why? Cause if the shoe was ugly you wouldn’t even pick it up and look at it. Think about a woman you saw at a bar. I’m not being mean I am just being real. The LeBron XI Elites look cool but quite honestly they look like something out of a Transformers movie. But if that was what Nike was going for then they succeeded and Megatron would be happy. I personally don’t like the look of them but I’m not that shallow and I also go for personality. As far as style goes the other question I ask is, Can I wear these shoes off the court with jeans? No you cannot… However, this is somewhat unfair cause I have a high standard when I ask the question of wearing hoop shoes with jeans and casual wear. The Jordan 11’s are the standard by which I judge this so you can see I set the bar pretty high.

Price

Next, lets talk about price. The LeBron XI Elites are priced at 12,995.00 pesos. Before you get all up and arms about the price understand that it is an exclusive shoe and it belongs to the third greatest player to ever play the game (Here comes the debate lol-MR). If it was Kyle Korver’s shoe or DeMarcus Cousins’ (he also mentioned Nick Collison lol-MR) I think you shouldn’t spend that kind of money. No disrespect to them and their game but you get my point. But hey if you got it, get it! Regardless of the price you also got to know that you can never go wrong with a Nike shoe.

Functionality

TDC11
TDC11

Finally, how functional are these shoes? Well, I kid you not, they are AWESOME! For those that don’t know me or my game I’ve never been one to play above the rim. Quite honestly tapping the back board is my version of dunking on someone but when I wear these shoes it’s like they have some sort of cushion of springs in the insole (I saw Tony reaching the whole practice-MR). I definitely felt springy but I am sure I was not about to win any dunk contests. My only functional complaint is that the bottom of the shoe was a little slippery and I never felt I could not get enough grip but I am sure you can remedy that with some spit.

Overall, I rate this shoe an 8.5 of 10. You can never go wrong buying a Nike shoe especially when it comes from the 3rd greatest player to play the game. ( MJ, Kobe, LeBron) We can save that argument for another time. But next time you head to Titan I’d say pick up a pair of the LeBron 11 Elites and play your heart out. I just don’t think you will wear them to prom like I did with the Jordan 11’s!
