Thoughts Too Long For Twitter: FIBA-Asia Championship Day 6

By The Numbers: Gilas Bags Top Seed in Group E

It wasn’t easy. It wasn’t pretty. Man, it wasn’t even anywhere near how we thought it would go. Either way, we got the win and that is all that matters. Gilas Pilipinas booked win #5 and book top-seed at the FIBA-Asia Championship against Hong Kong. Time to revisit some thoughts that couldn’t fit in the 140 character restriction of twitter!

1. Did we want Marcus Douthit and Ranidel de Ocampo get some much needed rest today? Yes. Could we give them some rest? Absolutely not. Gilas Pilipinas struggled out of the gate and the forced Coach Chot Reyes’ hand to give both Kuya Marcus and RaniDirk some heavy minutes. Hopefully one day’s rest will be enough to get them beck to 100%.

2. Today was supposed to be the day that June Mar Fajardo and Gary David were supposed to explode. We didn’t see it happening. It is tough to see two players that we all know can do lots of damage, continue to search for their points on the court. I sure do hope that El Granada and The Kraken can start to get things going soon.

3. Thank you, Qatar! From the bottom of our hearts, he send our deepest appreciation for what you have done for the country by beating Chinese-Taipei. I don’t know how we can repay you for giving us the #1 spot! I don’t think we can give you Fort Bonifacio, but maybe we can work something out! Kthxbye!

4. No highlight reel dunk for Japeth in this game. Goodness, I really wanted another huge dunk by the Ginebra big man. Am I being bratty to want one in every game?! Probably. Am I the only one? Probably not. There is something that happens to the crowd (and the players) when Japeth goes up for a dunk. Chills, man.

5. Hats off to Gabe once again! Finally taking home a Player of the Game award, Norwood has been the best all-around player for our team since the beginning of the tournament. Plus, he has played the most number of minutes at that. Hopefully, we can get a chant for him too!
