Tropang Texters rue bad officiating in Game 3 loss to Mixers

The Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters had a four-point lead going into the closing minutes of Game 3 but they lose it all after James Mays and James Yap put together five straight points. After the game, a still disappointed squad complained about the officiating which they felt sided with the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers.

“It was a hard fought game and San Mig came on top tonight,” said Talk ‘N Text head coach Norman Black. “My team came out with effort. We got to put this one behind us.

“We just hope that the next game is governed well to give us a fair chance of winning. Contacts in the game of basketball should be called evenly on both ends.”

Black was animated in the game specially on no calls on their side. Jayson Castro’s daredevil drives to the basket were met with no whistles. Fouls also were not called on Richard Howell’s putback attempts that featured a lot of contact.

The Tropang Texters were whistled for 21 fouls in the game with Jimmy Alapag getting five of these. The Mixers on the other hand were only called for 13. TNT’s 21 fouls led to 20 free throw attempts for the Mixers.

Black also used the spotty officiating to explain Castro’s refusal to take the ball strong to the basket at the closing moments of the game.

“If you keep driving to the basket and keep ending up on the floor without fouls being called, the tendency is to settle for jumpers,” explained Black.

Ranidel De Ocampo agreed with his coach about the officiating.

“Sa tingin ko, may mga atake kami sa basket na hindi natawagan ng foul. Tapos pag dating sa kabila, manipis yung tawag,” he said. “Medyo disappointed kami kasi yung mga referee parang two games na si Jimmy ginagawa nilang foul trouble. First time sa career niya, sabi niya kanina na back to back games, foul trouble. Di nangyayari yun. Ngayon lang. Nagtataka din kami.”
