Wenger reveals Wilshere is 10 days of training away from potential Arsenal return

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere is nearing a first-team comeback, and has hailed the midfielder's "mental strength".

The 20-year-old has been sidelined for 14 months following a series of injuries, which caused him to miss Arsenal's Premier League campaign, Euro 2012 and the Olympics.

But Wenger has stressed that whilst a return is imminent, Wilshere will need to work his way back up through the ranks to ensure that he is match fit once again.

"We need to manage him well. He needs a few games in the reserves. Wilshere had ups and downs. He was focused, especially in the last three months. We have to be a bit cautious," he told reporters.

"When you're so young and you're out for 14 months, it's a good test for your mental strength."

Wenger also announced last week that Emannuel Frimpong has resumed training, and says that he could play much sooner.

"He's a bit in front of Jack on match fitness. He could play tonight for reserves," he added.
